Ang Pagtaltal sa Guimaras is an annual re-enactment of Christ’s passion and crucifixion every Good Friday in the Province of Guimaras. The play starts from the Smallest Plaza, a few meters away from Jordan Municipal hall all the way to Balaan Bukid, the One with the big cross on top of the hill if you are looking at the island from Iloilo City.
The Passion Play has been attracting locals and tourists whose visit usually culminates in the trek to Balaan Bukid. Some are already staying there starting Holy Thursday by camping. This event is also celebrated by the devotees, they sacrifice climbing up the Balaan Bukid and offers personal penance, hoping God will provide them good will and blessings.
This my first time to witness the event, it takes me almost two hours of walk going up to Balaan Bukid since the road was closed and the tricycles could not enter anymore due to number of people going up to Balaan Bukid. I got a chance to take some photos to share.
Aside for the Manggahan Festival, Ang Pagtaltal is the main attraction in the Guimaras Province. If you will try to visit Guimaras and witness the event, take a pumpboat from Ortiz wharf in Iloilo City to Jordan Wharf in Guimaras. There are also pumpboat trips directly to Balaan Bukid.
